A Message from Our President

It can feel like a daunting task to find the right dog for you and your family. We are mostly a volunteer organization, with many adoption volunteers to help guide you to the love of your life. (feedback we hear over the years about dogs adopted from Westside). We are a 501(c)3 tax deductible charity. We receive no government funding – the support we get comes from adopters, fans and other benevolent individuals. Our general adoption fee is $375-475 for adults and $475 for puppies. Adoption fees only cover a small part of the average cost of each dog. We have no regular income. As a non-profit, we rely on donations to cover the rest of the cost for each dog. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, microchip registration and up to date vaccinations. Without donations, none of the wonderful dogs on the website would be there. We are in a continuous struggle to be able to save dogs in high-kill shelters who need us. When you adopt one dog, another gets saved from waiting lists of dogs to be euthanized in animal shelters all over. We do take some owner-surrendered dogs who are steps away from being left behind. The biggest reason for dogs losing their homes is that people move or landlords discover a dog the tenants aren’t allowed to have. Another common reason is that an owner has no time for the dog – we try not to judge, but rather help the dogs. Anything you donate to us goes towards the care and the support of more rescued dogs. We love welcoming potential new adopters; we have our notes on all dogs and are ready to introduce you to some amazing choices. Westside German Shepherd Rescue was started in 2002. Since then we have successfully saved and found loving homes for 16,000 dogs. We are a committed group of incredible people who always love post-adoption updates and pictures to see how you and your adopted dog are doing. Thanks so much, Robin
